To
the 2008 El Dorado Bronco Players and Parents:
Welcome to the El Dorado Bronco family. This year the El Dorado Broncos were
again voted one of the top summer collegiate baseball leagues by Baseball
America. We are also one of the winningest teams in the Jayhawk League history.
The National Baseball Congress (NBC) has designated the Jayhawk League as a
premier league. The Broncos are a non-profit organization and rely on
fundraisers, booster club membership, along with ticket, souvenir and concession
sales to fund the team in El Dorado, Kansas. The current management acquired
the Broncos in 1987, since then they have won the National Baseball Congress
World Series four times, finished in the top five four times and have finished
in the top ten every year except one.
The
El Dorado Broncos are made up of elite college baseball players from
universities located across the United States. Each summer these collegians
will come to El Dorado, live with host parents and compete against some of the
top college players. This league is heavily scouted and offers great exposure.
The team will play approximately 55 games in 50 days. The top Bronco players
will be awarded the opportunity to compete in the NBC National Tournament held
in August (double elimination 48 team bracket).
Sandy Zieman, Host Family Coordinator, will
coordinate our host families for our players this summer. These homes will
furnish meals, a place to sleep and laundry facilities while you are in town.
We try to furnish a suitable and supportive atmosphere, whenever possible,
because we want both the players and host families to enjoy the summer. Our
host families are located in
El Dorado, Augusta, East
Wichita, Derby and Mulvane.
We try to place two players per home when possible.
Since not all players drive their personal vehicle, those that drive are placed
first and non-drivers will be placed in a home with a player having a car.
Players not driving are expected to split the cost of transportation to and from
the field. The host family cannot furnish transportation or money per NCAA
rules (the same rules that apply to your college boosters).
Players need to bring enough clothes for about two weeks
(might include a couple dress outfits). Currently, the longest road trip is six
days. The Broncos will provide lodging and transportation for these road
trips. Some meal money will also be provided on road trips; however, most
players will usually exceed this amount. The players need to furnish their own
cleats, gloves and any field gear required. The Broncos will furnish the game
uniforms, T-shirts and hats.
Parent’s weekend will be held July 18-20. Friday and Saturday’s games will
start at 7:05 p.m., and Sunday’s game starts at 1:05 p.m. against Jayhawk League
rival Derby Twins. The Booster Club will host a luncheon for the players and
families on Saturday. You will receive an invitation with all the details.
Enclosed is a preliminary schedule of games and a letter
to answer some questions you might have. After reading the letter and you have
made your travel plans to get here, please forward that information to us or
call with your approximate arrival time so that arrangements can be made with
your host family. If for any reason, you will not be joining our team or
arriving after June 1st, please call so we can make other arrangements or update
our information.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at your
convenience. The players are expected to report Friday, May 30th at 4:00 p.m. at
McDonald’s Stadium, 200 block of North Griffith in El Dorado. If for any
reason you cannot meet this date, please inform the general manager so other
arrangements can be made.
